ARIATHEA ROSE: BIO
A graduate of Toi Whakaari: The New Zealand Drama School, Ariathea began her career in Australian musical theatre and continued into cabaret, jazz, soul and original compositions.
Her jazz album Salutations, and original albums Super Love and Original Lullabies for Sarah are available on all major platforms.
Her one-woman show Blonde Ambition: a History of the Bombshell in Song is “a sassy salute to the Golden Divas of popular song and the hits that made them Superstars”.
Career highlights include tours as a Fabulous Singlette for Ess Gee Entertainment for their modernised Gilbert and Sullivans; the role of Madam and understudying the role of Madame Thenardier for Cameron Mackintosh’s 10th Anniversary Tour of Les Misérables, including performing the role for Claude-Michel Schönberg (the composer); Jelly Bean: a play for three actors and Orchestra with the Auckland Philharmonia; creating the role of Boadicea for the one-woman rock-opera Boadicea; and a Royal Command performance for King Charles of Hairy McClary, as the singing narrator, during his Diamond Jubilee New Zealand tour.
As lead vocalist for corporate covers band Retroactive, jazz funkateers The Conscious Music Collective, songstress for The Royal New Zealand Navy Big Band and Great American Songbook specialists The Jazz Age, she performed at many festivals and public/private events across New Zealand. She has held multiple-year jazz and soul residencies at venues across Auckland (including Sky City Casino, funk stronghold Grand Central and soul venue Orleans) and in this context has also curated bespoke entertainment across multiple genres.
Her career also includes cabaret in Japan for Hotel New Akao, roles in musicals for Auckland Theatre Company (Cabaret, Hair, Sweet Charity) annual appearances at the Napier International Art Deco Festival and, as an actor, roles for NZ Opera, South Pacific Pictures, Warner Brothers and Netflix.
She is currently co-creating The 3rd Ear Project, original jazz funk with some of Aotearoa / New Zealand’s finest musicians under the musical direction of jazz guitarist Dixon Nacey + producer Andre Modre Brown.
As well as singing to uplift, inspire and connect, she loves dogs, yoga, and sunflowers: big, bold and beautiful!
